Function
There are various functions of the muscular system and
some of these are: creation of movement, protection of organs and pumping of
blood, and easing of blood flow. The system is also vital in digestion;
whereby, smooth muscles in the stomach and intestines process the eaten food.
How it works
The muscular system helps move your bones that are in the
skeletal system. It also helps us move things around and helps make our lives
easier. Without muscle we wouldn't be able to move at all.
Diseases
Myopathy - Myopathies are diseases of skeletal muscle which are not caused by nerve
disorders. These diseases cause the skeletal or voluntary muscles to become weak
or wasted.
Polymyositis - Polymyositis is a systemic connective tissue disorder characterized by
inflammatory and degenerative changes in the muscles, leading to symmetric
weakness and some degree of muscle atrophy.
Compartment Syndrome - Compartment syndrome involves the compression of nerves and blood vessels
within an enclosed space. Compartment syndrome is a condition in which there is
swelling and an increase in pressure within a limited space (a compartment) that
presses on and compromises blood vessels, nerves, and/or tendons that run
through that compartment.
Taking Care
Eat plenty of protein food-for bigger muscles and be
more masculine.
Exercise regularly for strong muscles.
Have enough rest and sleep for production of more cells and tissues.
Fun Facts
Without muscles, we wouldn't be able to move at all.
It takes more muscles to frown rather than smiling.
There are 600-800 muscles in a single human body.
